when do u know u hit vtec

How do u know when you hit vtec in a car. I have a 1996 honda accord ex. The only mod that i have is a intake nothing more. I dont know when the car hits vtec or not. I also have a 1993 accord se and it feels like that pulls a lot more that my 96 accord. Could there be something wrong with my vtec. My rpm never go past 4rpm even when I try to push the car. Is this normal or maybe I am the one that is going crazy here. I got a 5spd standard for a reason so I can feel the punch a little more and I dont feel it at all. LIke I said I feel it more out of my 93 accord automatic. Can someone please help:( :(

I don't think you're going to be able to "hit" VTEC if you're not taking it past 4K RPM.

does the car not go past 4k rpms? or is it just weak after 4k? either way it seems like you have a problem. check your ecu to see if it is throwing any codes. vtec on a sohc is not like dohc. you don't "feel" it or hear it nearly as much with a sohc.

... Only one way I know to describe it..

... Wommmmmmmmmm-BAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

actually..
woooooooommmmmm....BAAAAAAHHHHH
is exactly how I'd describe it too
hrm..
I know when you toast a rom chip (while burning an ecu) your engine wont rev over 4K. Did you get any chip work done? If not maybe your ecu itself is fawerked.

ok let say that the scu on my car is done. If I were to replace the ecu would that solve the problem. Cause from what you said my car never goes over 4rpms and if it does it is very weak. ad no i have not got any modifications to the ecu at all.

You can't really tell in a single cam.

Vtec engagement on a F22B1 is not nearly as (fun) as like a H22 or B16. Your engagement point isn't until 5600 rpm, so if your not reving past 4k.... Do you have a decent A/F monitor? Is your car leaning out after 4k? If so i'd definately check out the ecu.

actually you can hear it on a sohc. my friend has a '00 ex coupe and with an intake on, you can distinctly hear the vtec at 5.5k rpm. i'm not sure about the accord engines, though.

you sure you can hear it on the 00ex? ive listened to my friends and never heard it... I thought the sohc motors with vtec used the vtec as fuel economy rather than performance is that correct? there are some exceptions however like the vtec del sol....
