Default 02 Civic Engine Swap Question

I have a friend whos gettin a 02 Civic that has a blown engine. We have found the stock d17 for around 700 bucks with a warranty. He cant afford a K series swap for it. So I was thinking about this. Can you fit a GSR or an LS into there? Well I would think you can. But what about electronics and axle fitting and such. Hes getting the car pretty soon so we need info asap.
Thanks for your help

I would think that the ls would go in without any problems but then again it's a 02 and honda loves to change things.

it would take some work, but the b-series motor has been put in there before...but the other issue is if its legal in your area...some states prohibit putting an engine older than your year car, but some people do it anyway

What work would you have to do? The electronics are ob3(correct me if im wrong) in that year of civic. The gsr or ls would most likely be a obd1. So how would you convert it. Also what about fitment? Wouldnt it bolt straight in just like it would in the ek and eg civics?
Thanks

Kind of off topic, but how did your friend blow an engine in a 2 year old car?

Actually, its illegal in all 50 states to put an engine in a car thats older than the car. However, thats not to say that this law isn't broken often.

It was actually his cousin who blew it. I guess he was driving it and out of no where it blew. He took it to a dealership to have it checked and the oil pump failed. He had no warranty on it. So my friends just gonna take over payments on it. But in my opinion I think he should take out the d17 for something like a GSR or LS. But I dont know if that will work and thats what im asking. Thanks
