My engine is making a little rattling noise at idle :squint: Its only making it when it idles. I was just wondering what could the problem be? I was thinking my valves need to be adjusted again. :dunno:

I have a 2001 Civic with 21k miles and so any input on what the problems could be would be appreciated ....

 

what kind of rattling noise?. where is it coming from?

 

sounds like a heat sheild somewhere along your exhaust

 

Its more of a ticking sound then a rattling, but I checked today with a stock Civic and noticed it made the same noise. Guess its just normal engine noise, It's a new sound i've never heard of before :dunno:

 

well the ticking may be your valve adjustments may be off.... Try this get a long screw driver and place it on top of your valve cover and place your ear on it........ youll be able to tell if its coming from there.... If so well go get your valves adjusted it meas they are out of adjustment and may be hindering your performance and/or gas mileage

 

if u redline often, adjust the valves to spec once a year or 12,000 miles.
