Default idle rpms

Normal idle for a b18 is around 1100 rpm's correct? In my sol I've noticed that when idling, the rpm's are dropping to around 800 and what even looks like 500 rpm's. I didn't think that was possible without the vehicle stalling out. Advice?

B18A/B/C idle is the standard 750 +/-50 RPM.

I doubt a constant 500 is possible in most I4 piston engines, however it can "bounce" there. If it does somehow hold a 500RPM idle, it'll shake like hell.

Sounds like an IACV (EACV) problem.

1100 is too high, man! You definitely want it down near 700-800.

I also agree with Kai - sounds like an IACV issue.

is there any cons to having a high idle? my idle is ~1300, and should be 750-800 or so, but i dont mind it because i'd prefer it a lil bit higher in these cold ass winters.

btw, what other possible causes are there for this behavior? i might want to fix my idle after the winter

Increased engine wear, but not much.

Possible causes, IACV problem, or some sort of small vac leak.

Minor correction: idle spec for all B-series VTEC motors is 800 +/- 50 RPM.

Anyway, this could be an IACV or possibly a fast idle thermo valve. Depends on when exactly your idle is acting funky. Does it do it when the engine is cold, warm, or all the time?
