1993 Integra GS won't start.
Ok so I got a Duii, bummer deal, I know, and I had to park my integra for a few months, during that time the battery died, I jumped it once about a month after it sat and it started right up and I took it for a drive without my stereo on for like 30 mins to charge the battery. Well about 3 days later the batt was dead. I didn't jump it again for the next while cuz i didn't have money for a new battery. Long story short it won't start up now. I tried jumping it again, to no avail. So we changed out the cap and rotor cuz my buddy said the same thing had happened to him. No dice. Then we changed out the spark plugs(which the gap was all huge from wear) and the battery so it could try on its own power. It cranks like a champ but it will not start. We put some new fuel in, it's gettin fuel, we can smell it. But I don't think its gettin spark cuz yesterday my sister's bf came over and looked at the new cap and it still looked brand new. Any ideas? When I searched the net it said to see if the ecu was gettin power, but I don't see any lights on the thing like it said there were to check the trouble codes. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it stumbling at all? In other words, when you crank, does it sort of start to catch, then die, start to catch, etc... or does it just crank and crank and never seem to grab?
If it's stumbling, then at least you have SOME spark. But if it's not even stumbling, then you're either getting (a) no spark whatsoever, (b) no fuel, or (c) no air (doubtful). The first step would be to determine if you're sparking at all. Pull a plug out, ground it, and see if there's spark (or use a tester, or whatever means you want to .. just see if it's sparking or not). Sounds like you may not have spark on any cylinders at all, in which case you probably messed something when you were playing with the distributor (probably an easy fix). |
Also check the main fuel relay :goodjob:
|
I am not getting any spark, and as to the fuel relay, is that the one in the dash by your left knee on the drivers side? See the cap hasn't had any sparkage through it at all, the rotor is spinnin it's just not sparking to the points. I know there is gas a goin cuz I can smell it when it cranks. and it doesnt stumble or anythin it just doesnt start.

Lmao, Honda's don't have points..
If you know you have no spark forget everything else until you do, focus on spark. What you need to do is figure out if the coil and ignitor are working. It will probably be one of the two. Is your coil on the outside of the dist.? it's the box with one wire coming out of it and going to the dist. cap. Or does it have an internal coil? |
Ok there smart guy, all distributor caps have points. But that is besides the point. Well, I just changed out the internal coil and still it won't start up. Next I need to check the ignitors, but I need to go to Speeds and get em 4 45$. Hopefully that will work. I tried to get a new main relay, but they tried to give some little thing with 4 prongs instead of the one I have which is a 7 prong. The guy at Napa said possibly that they don't carry them or somethin. Any other suggestions are welcome, oh yeah where is the ignitor?
|
I never said I was smart, what you are talking about are not called "points". that's just contacts in the dist. cap.
Hey, have fun shotgunning parts at your car though lamer |
Contact points. And I am done shotgunning parts at my car. My sister is going to pay for it to get fixed at the shop tomorrow. Thanks for all the help. Happy Holidays.

my buddy had a similar problem with his 93 integra GSR.... we replaced his Ignitor (it's inside the distributor cap) and then we took out his weak internal coil and replaced it w/ an external coil (because the Coil on most hondas are very weak...especially internal coils)
slapped the sucker back on and started right up! oh yah... we changed his cap and rotor while we were at it but you can just get away w/ a ignitor and/or a new coil. test both and one should be F'ed up..... |
The shop says the whole distributor is F'ed up. They said it would be like 350 for a new one, but I looked em up online and they are like 255 with a 75 core charge. I changed out the cap and rotor, spark plugs, and the coil before it went in. Do they have to give me back my parts if I ask for em? The part is supposed to come in tomorrow morning. Any advice would be appreciated.
