i have a 94 accord. my maintenance required thing is red. i just called the dealer and they say i need another tune up. i was just wondering how often this car needs a tune up. my car has 155k miles and the last tune up i got was at 120k or so. so do i need another tune up?

 

30k is about right for a minor tune-up.

 

save some money and do it yourself :thumbup:

i had a 95 accord lx too and i never took it in to the dealer or shops for tune ups.... well...only time it went in was when i blew open my tranny

 

how would you do it yourself, what would i need, and how much would that cost me?

 

-change oil
-change tranny fluid
-check idle speed
-check ignition timing
-valve adjustment
-replace plugs
-replace distributer cap and rotor
-replace plug wires, if worn
-rotate tires
-top off fluids
-lube chassis(not really sure what that is, but most places list it as one of the things they do for a tune-up :P)

that's all i can think f at the moment

 

not sure if he needs to change the spark plugs unless they are full

 

How and when do spark plugs become "full"?

 

I say just change them, they're not expensive and can't go wrong with new plugs!

 

ok this is my verson of when my red or orange little light comes on....

1. i ***** at the damn thing
2. i stick my car key in the little insert button in the gauge cluster and turn it back to green

then i laugh and say what a joke... i wounder how many people take there car to honda everytime this darn thing goes on

hehe i personally thing its just a old trick for people to come in to honda and wig out why there maintence required light is on..

by the way inspyral if you have a new car like in the late 90's you really don't have to worry about lubeing the chassis.. thats mainly on the older cars and trucks where there are like plugs in the chassis and in the ball joints and you take a gresse gun and inject lube into them... but most of the newer cars don't have that anymore...

 

I was/am confused on this also? Perhaps he means "worn"?
I don't know; the "original poster", nonetheless, sounds
like an "A to B" type, so I'd be surprised if the oil's even been
changed since his/her last "service". The only light that EVER
comes on in my Honda is the "no seatbelt" warning.
