Default why would my engine behave like this?

The engine makes a rattle on narrow throttle,
at WOT it makes no unorthedox sound. VTEC
has been disengaged by the ECU and before then
it was intermittant and making a snapping sound
on the left side of the motor, I heard this while
driving. this sound happened on the cam switchover
at 4500 on WOT and 5000 on narrow throttle. this
has been this way since wed of this week. no power
loss outside of the fact that I detuned the car to
0,0 cams, 16ignition timing to save the wear on my
parts. I also did this and re-adjusted my valves to make
sure they were solid. the car has 49500 and idles smooth
occasionally heats past 1/2 and has 205-220 in the cylinders on a B18C1.

This problem came up after I ran my lashes too tight by accident. now at narrow throttle, I get this rattle which sounds like a marble in the engine no matter where in the revband on the narrow throttle. when I snap it open, it goes away. the car has fresh 5-30w oil and over 4qts.

GRRR!?

oh yeah, and VTEC isnt working anymore my computer took it from me. I have the 5K bounce and a CEL.

I have yet to put it on the dagnostic tool. I will post the results tuesday night when I work on the car with my friend. it is behaving the same as if the green wire is removed from the solenoid... but I am sure that is a blanket response from the computer for any such problem with VTEC system... which is my speculation for now...

The vtec not engaging is simple, if you are throwing a code the ECU goes into limp mode, disabling vtec. You don't need a diagnostic tool, all you need to do is jump the socket underneath the passenger dash, then the check engine light will flash. Long flashes = 10, short = 1. http://hondata.com/techecucodes.html
Go there it explains it all.

Time to go to honda for a new VTEC solenoid.(or you could go and pull one from a junk yard car)

You can power test the solenoid to see if it works.

did it and it is working, it only lights VTEC above 2500rpm and it makes all kinds of snapping noises. I think my motor has bad oil pressure and wiped rod and main bearings in addition to the LMAs... we think the engine lost oil pressure and is in need of an eminant rebuild.

Its drivable, I think I am going to put in the ITR LMAs, I have to get my head align honed for some bad bearing caps on the cams from when it stopped due to too much TQ on them... 28 instead of 19-20. so, for now I do the LMAs, then when I buy the car from the lease... I will begin collecting the parts to make the engine a 2L.

Well if your rod/main bearings are bad too, that solves your rattle under acceleration thread right there.....rod knock.
