B20 launch

I have a non vtech b20 with cams and some other minor mods in my gsr. The torque on this car is awsome, but I have a hard time launching, because of the wheel spin. Any one know the perfect rpm to launch.

Are you just dumping the clutch?

It's "vtec", not "vtech".

Try pre-loading. Feather the clutch a bit, instead of dumping it at a random RPM.

Moved to Drag Strip...

Sorry I took long guys. I tried feathering the clutch and it works ok on trials, but when I line up with some one I guess I get to excited and dump it. I think the best way for me to take off is to take it easy on the gas in first gear.

sherwood 12-10-2007 08:00 PM

why the hell would you put a b20 in a gs-r?

Love2RedLine 12-16-2007 11:06 AM

Why not put a b20 in a gsr? It runs very well. Faster than a gsr for sure in the 1/4. Sorry I take long to get back.

sherwood 12-16-2007 01:07 PM

It's not going to be faster in any way shape or form.

The GS-R engine and gearing blows the B20 out of the water

cage.smith 12-16-2007 03:40 PM

yeah....the b20's not that fast. ive owned a eg coupe w/a gsr stock and ran 13.8's all day

Love2RedLine 12-16-2007 07:19 PM

My car still has the gsr tranny and computer. Idk guys I would put my money on the b20 over the gsr on the 1/4 as long as the mods are simular. I know an EG with a gsr would dip on me. Have any of you driven a b20? I know the numbers are pretty weak, but I don't have to wind it up to get my torque.

B20 feels faster than it is because of the useable torque curve, but you have absolutely nothing top end.

Love2RedLine 12-18-2007 08:38 PM

Ok I see what your saying about the curve. I think the cams I have are helping me out with the top end a bit. A friend of my ran a 15.5 with his stock b20 and his car didn't even get traction till second gear. Don't stock gsr's also pull a 15.5. I don't see why everyone bags on the b20. Mine Reves to 7400 rpm. I Dont realy know what I have but it seems good.
Im kinda bummed though, because my tire flew off on the free way today and my bomex kit is thrashed. I guess I'm just lucky to be alive.

sherwood 12-18-2007 11:32 PM

yeah... anyway. short of .2 liters of displacement difference there isn't much mechanically different from the b18 or b20.

with a GSR b18 you actually have two sets of cams, to give you both a usable low end as well as a nice top end.

It seems you do have some knowledge, as you're still in an okay zone with your redline (though between 7200-7400 is really the top side of your rod's spec)

Love2RedLine 12-19-2007 12:57 AM

Yeah thats what I heard about the b18 and b20 being simular, but they sure do feel different. Do you think it would be safe to shoot a fat shot of NOS? The car has an STR fuel rail and it looks like the lines would hook right up. I can't afford a turbo.

AcuraFanatic 12-22-2007 02:16 PM

I would not put nitrous on a stock bottom end revving to that high. Personally, I wouldn't even feel comfortable revving that high with stock rod bolts.

Love2RedLine 12-23-2007 07:10 PM

Yeah I don't want to mess up my car. Its my only one right now. I think it has a rever or somthing so I dont blow it out, because when I looked down it was at 7400 and not winding any higher. It wasn't like the limmiter on my b18 wich just started bouncing when you hit the limmit. Do I have to change anything on the motor when I go turbo since it's already low compression.

sherwood 12-23-2007 11:10 PM

yeah, put the GSR engine back in

Love2RedLine 12-24-2007 10:55 AM

LOL damn mang. This is my poor guys racer. You know this moter is only $500; if i could afford another gsr engine I would put a turbo on that bz.

sherwood 12-24-2007 08:58 PM

why'd you take it out int he first place mang

Love2RedLine 12-25-2007 12:44 PM

I bought it like that. Im just happy to have a little piece of what I used to have. My last gsr the made cover of Import Tunner. My x parted it out.
