can i prep my car myself?
i was wondering if i could prep my car myself. up to the primer stage. what do i need to do?
|
i'm fairly certain you can. it would make it cheaper. i would talk to the body shop you're thinking about taking it to, and asking them. you'd probably just have to sand it down, fill any holes you wanted to do, then primer it. find out how many coats you'd need and if you'd have to do any sanding after primering it. i'm thinking about doing it myself too, though i may try to paint it myself as well.

apply 3 good coat of primer then wait at least 3 hrs to dry. then spray a black guide coat ( meaning is spray a mist coat over the primer spot) then wet sand with a sanding block. use 400 grits paper. taking out the black guide coat then until smooth.. hope that help

what should i do before the primer?

it depend on the condition of the car. Are u applying body filler? Or just want to primer the whole for a paint job? If u applying body filler then i have to sand it down to the metel then straight the dent out then apply body filler then sand it down... then primer it.. it really depend on what u doin to it let me know thanks jimmy

!
make sure you wash your car with dish washing soap to get rid of any wax, then was with laquer thinner before primer..
