Center (third) pin on brake pads ??

Center (third) pin on brake pads ??
I wanted to know what the center pin on brake pads was for, the one that is to be aligned with the cutout on the piston? I got new brake pads for my 02 v6 accord from autozone and they didn't have the pin in the center but my previous pads did.
So could I replace them without worrying about it?
