Default brakes

hi, I just rec'd Hawk brake pads. Are the pad shims already attached to the pad backing? No shims came with the pads and they seem to have an extra black metal strip already attatched to back brace?? I hope so. Can someone tell me if I need to get additional pad shims? thanks. RFT.

Shims aren't needed for pads, but they do allow a the piston a completely flat surface to push against, they're cheap, pick up a pair at autozone or napa.

I don't have shims on my Axxis Ultimates and they don't squeak. Like MPerson said, they are unnecessary.
