The ELD measures elecrical load in the car, it helps the ECU anticipate what it needs to do to hold the idle speed steady. In my cars it's built into the fusebox in the engine compartment. I think that location is kinda typical for Honda.

It won't keep your engine from starting & running.

Hi Jim,

You seem to have a lot of knowledge on this subject...I hope. I have a 94 GSR...and the charging system is not working properly...it's not charging the battery. I am trying to locate this ELD....can you help me at all?

It's built into the fusebox, like I said, but I don't think that's gonna stop it from charging. The ELD measures electrical load, so the ECU can anticipate what it's gonna do to hold a steady idle. In fact, outside of USA they don't even have an ELD & their alternators work OK.

Check the connections to the alternator. On my '95 there's a green wire that the ECU can use to shut off the alternator. If that wire has a short to ground, it can shut off the alternator even when the ECU doesn't want to.

I don't know... That doesn't sound like an ELD problem, more like a problem with the IACV.
