Default 1986 Civic Hatchbacks

Do you guys think I should continue working with a 86 civic hatch or buy a different car. It's hard to find exterior mods for these cars. Before I had this car i had a 93 prelude and it was v-tec. Bought it for 1,200 with a hole in the head. But after I fixed that I sold it for 5,000.

IMO you will have better luck with a 4th Gen. or newer hatch... 5th gen hatches are the best, however, just because they are so sessy...

I got my 5th gen. for a little more than $2K, so they are out there, you just gotta be persistent when looking...

I would stick with the 3G. I mean what exterior mods do you want, most "look" mods are ricer crap anyway. Stock looks fine. You can still get rims. I'm sure you can still lower it.

Stick with the 3G, no question. It's lighter, uncommon, and can still take any (normal pattern) B-series engine. It also has a proven race history that the other generations really don't. Not to mention it is cheap to buy and work on.

If you want to be normal, sell it and get a 5G. If you want to be a little more unique and have a more modern suspension, get a 4G. If you want to be cool, keep the 3G and make it into a super-sleeper. It is very possible. I have already heard of one B20/VTEC 3G, that's an insane car.

what type of exterior mods do ya want to do??

anyways, like these guys said, its a lightweight platform, lighter than the other civic gens, and you can put a plethora of different engines in there.

I would like a body kit for it. Maybe some different tail lights.

I like 4G the best but 5G is super common and played out, 3G is more rare and original.

The only kit I know of in current production is the Andy's autosport one. Fugly IMHO. The Mugen kit was badass, but it is long discontinued.

Aftermarket taillights for this car do not exist, thank god. I would cry if I saw altezza type lights on a 3G.
