Default need advice on a d16a6

i have a 1989 civic hb, with the stock d16a6, was thinking bout doing a b16 or b18 swap but its common..... i was wondering what kind of horse power would i get if i turbo out this d16a6.... running between 7 to 15 lbs....... i was told i would get bout 200 h.p...... need an opinion from someone a little familiar with this mod........... good idea or not...... if i go with putting a turbo, i will have the block built to 8.5:1 compression, instead of using the stock ratio of 9.1:1 compression...... let me know.......... thanks........

I think any time you can get away from using a D engine, the better. Yes the turbo might get you near 175 hp, but at what cost? $2000? Same price for a swap? Or near it? Then just do the swap. Its more legal, its more reliable because its a stock engine. And hey! If you save a little bit more money, you can turbo your swap and then your looking at better power

I agree with u smurf. Since he plan on boosting. Go with a 1 gen B16. It's OBD 0, cable tranny & that what our body style in Japan came with. What model do you have DX or Si?

Glad to hear it's a Si. Have 1 also in black. Love it. Anyway... If you do a B16 you can't use the stock D-tranny. Now if you do go with the B16 swap I'd recommend for the xtra $300 you can have the YS1 LSD tranny . Wish I had that xtra 300 at the time. You would need axles from a 90-93 Integra non abs, motor mounts, shift linkage & the motor comes w/ motor, tranny & ecu. Also, anoither advice since you're going turbo I'd upgrade your suspen, & do a rear disk conver. from a 90-93 Integra to help stop it depending on hp you'll be making.

Post some pictures of your ride. What color & yr is your si.

i already performed the rear disc conversion.. the car is currently primered for the mean time, its a 1989 si.... been reseaching on the first gen b16, it only makes 17 hp more than the d16, the only different i can see is it has dohc.'s........ i'm going to try something different and turbo out the d16..... i'm going to have the bottom end rebuilt, i might put oversized valves and put bigger injectors, i have a pr4 ecu which is from an integra with dohc's.......... i'll let you know how it go.....

Yeah you can do that. The B16 has more potential. The B16 has more than 17 hp vs a D16 & more torque.
