Is 12 MPG a little bad?
 

I have recently purchased a 91 CRX SI with a 92 B18A1 in it.
I get about 12 MPG, which seems awful to me. I could tell right away that it was running rich which was ok, but this is reallly rich.
I was wondering all the things I should check.
I know I need to check the o2 sensor, just haven't had the time to find it yet.
I need to change the plugs I am sure.
Someone told me to check the timing, are there any sites that give good directions for that?

hahahaha. What you are going to want to do is buy the other 3 pistons and have them installed.

Uhh yea, 12 MPG is horrible! Id say a nice tune up, and definately check the O2 sensor...

No, the check engine like is off.
It seems to run great, other than the mileage.
You can smell it running rich though.

What all should I do for a good tune up?

I'm thinking gas leak

It doesn't seem to loss any gas if its just sitting around, how would I check for a gas leak?

If you know it's running rich, that can be attributed to the things you already mentioned. Make sure your wiring harness is properly connected, you may have to jump 2 wires in order to see a code flash. Once you have a code or codes you can directly identify the problem.

How exactly do you test a honda oxygen sensor?

I have a multimeter...

Am i right that (off the car) you have to use a torch and heat the tip of it and the sensor has to emit some kind of reading in a certain amount of time?

edit: What size socket do I use if I need to replace mine? (95 Civic EX Coupe). I've seen Bosch O2 Sensors, are they good for use in a Honda, or should I try and find an OEM one?

Id buy a Denso O2... Im pretty sure those the OEM ones... And Ive heard of a few problems with the Bosch O2s in Hondas...


As for a good tune up... Plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires, air filter, ect...

You said it smells like its burning rich, pull the plugs and find out... Usually theyll let you know...
