Default Check out my F*$cked up Valve spring retainer!

Well, I was looking into my engine after I took my valve cover off, and i noticed a small piece of metal at the bottom of my head. And this is what i found.....AAHHHH

It isn't to clear of a picture, but that is the tope of my broken retainer. It liek split in half. Now I have to put new retainers on there. Also I need to know where to get 2 more valve adjustment nuts for my engine. Does anyone know if any other honda engine has those nuts?

The valve spring retainers on my '91 CRX Si look something like this:
See attached file.
(two per valve spring; solid tempered steel)

Your picture isn't clear. It looks like a piece of wire (from who knows where) or a broken tiny spring that goes around the top of an intake valve stem seal.

Take Care,
ChrisS

That is a first. Haven't seen that one before.

All B series vtec heads have the right parts for your motor. I am unsure as to whether retainers are transferrable between non-vtec and vtec heads. Maybe a search for the part number would be a good idea. The honda dealership should be able to order the parts you need if they don't have them in stock.

Default Instructions for Installing Valve Spring Retainers

Well, I was peering into my engine yester day, and I noticed the top of 2 of my retainers were broken off. So then I saw a piece of the retainers in the bottom of my head. SO now I have to put 2 new retainers on my engine. I was wodneirng if anyone had any instructions like from a manual on how to do this. I know you have to take off the Oil Rails and the things below it that hold down the cams, but do I have to take the cam all the way off? I don't want to have to redo all of my timing and eveything, because I have never done it and I don't know how to. Also I don't have a timing light.

The section in the Integra service manual for a vtec head will be a good walkthrough. The manual can be found in the civic forum sticky as a PDF file. Essentially you have to remove the cams to be able to compress the springs. Unless you have the snap-on on car spring compressor, you will have to remove the head to compress the springs.
