All I smell is clutch!

I jsut put in a new clutch and tranny and flywheel, all that kinda stuff. When I get to about 8,000 RPM's it stays there, and it sounds like the clutch is slipping, but it is brand new. Why would it do this. Do I need like a stronger pressure plate?

You need to break in the clutch.

Please don't tell me that you took the car to redline right out of the install. That would warrant a new clutch because you have just glazed your disk over.

I waited about a day or so. But what do you mean I glazed it over? Should I just slap my old ACT street strip 6 sprung hub back on there? It has plenty of life left in it.

If I drive the car easy for like another week or so, and dont go about 5000, do I HAVE to put a new disc in?

Provocateur 10-06-2005 07:19 AM

You have to break in the new clutch with 300 miles of easy city driving.

The clutch is ruined.

OK, My question is, I had an ACT street Strip disc in my car before I put this clutch in my car. It had only been used for about 2000 miles. It has a six sprung hub, and the springs don't move at all, and the disc has plenty of life left in it. IF I slap that in there this weekend, I don't have to break it in do I? And what does glazing the disc mean?

RedlineBoyzCRX 10-06-2005 04:17 PM

Well, it isn't slipping at all. And it hasn't done it. My mechanic readjsuted the cable on it, and it is straight. He said he tightened it a lil to much and the clutch was never fully fully in, jsut a hair out. So I figure I am good now. Waht do you think SCHMOO?

Provocateur 10-06-2005 08:06 PM

Only time will tell. I can foresee problems in the future with grip, but since you say it is ok for now, we will have to wait and see if it is ruined.

Next time, break it in properly.

RedlineBoyzCRX 10-06-2005 11:47 PM

well, my mechanic said my clutch cable is to tight, and that the throwout is always out jsut a little bit, but enough for that diff. There is no play in the cable at all, thats y. I will psot on how it works tommorrow.

RedlineBoyzCRX 10-07-2005 06:58 AM

I don't smell clutch anymore and it grips pretty tight, but I am still planning on putting a new one in. I am jsut not sure if I should go with the ACT Street/strip disc or the 6 Puck one. Whatdya think Schmoo?
