Don't know what engine code

long blink, long blink, short blink, short blink, short blink.
JDM first gen B16a with matching PW0 ECU. That should be 23 but it isn't a real code. There is no pause between the blink except for a long pause when the sequence starts again. I cut ignition and turn the car back on and it goes away and does not come back. Seems to happen when I am low on fuel.

23 is the knock sensor.

You sure? I have the manual for the car on my computer and it isn't listed.

Knock is bad. :( Could a lean condition cause knock? I know the car is running lean.

Does that engine even have a knock sensor in the first place?

Fire Jun 13, 2005 11:45 AM

most definitely

ED9man Jun 13, 2005 01:34 PM

it does.
What is timing supposed to be at idle? I used a gun and it was 15 degrees advance. Maybe if I set it back a hair I could solve this issue since it was designed to run on better gas in Japan?

Sure, all DOHC VTEC engines have had them from day 1.

if you are lean and advance then it is picking up some real noisy crap. The knock is so the computer knows where the base timing sould be leveld to optiminum advancement at driving conditions, lean advanced and cheap gas is opt to cause detonation pinging sending the computer into a fit of panic... you like that?

ED9man Jun 15, 2005 11:19 AM

I don't run cheap gas.
I checked the advance and it is in spec so it must be the lean condition.
