Are LS/VTEC Engines Reliable?

After my post on the b16 head i got alot of heat about how LS/VTEC engines are not reliable and spin rod bearings. If they are really put together well and not sloped together can they be reliable engines? Will it last?

yes and yes

They're reliable with enough money, but some people usually skip some important things making them unreliable.

i put this in the other post but the only thing u have to worry about is the oil lines, u cant just slap it on there, u have to pay attention to what ur doing, with decent oil lines, ur fine, the only thing u cant do is put the sprayers that come on a true vtec engine in the block that spray up toward the pistons to help lubricate everything under high rpms. good luck.

If you build this motor do your self a favor and get a billet oil pump gear. Most failures in the LS/VTEC are because of low oil flow and this is the cure.

would it not make more sense to start with a B18C1 block that already has oil jets in it, and use the LS crank and rods to get the long stroke? Then you have a block that's made for VTEC, more torque, and you've got a stronger platform. Yes, it will cost more than a B18a or B18b block, but if you people are saying the LS/VTEC is good with enough money, why not spend money on the right equipment the first time?

Hell, why not just take a B18C engine and put on a small turbo? If you're willing to drop a few grand to do it right, then make it count.

Just get an oil pump from a VTEC B series. They push more oil.
