Default what to clean engine parts with?

I just got an A6 head from a friend, and I plan to send it off for resurfacing and milling and what not, but before I do I want to clean it up. What sort of tools and liquids/gels/pastes should I use to clean each part?

yeah i use those too, although ive heard that soem carb cleaners will burn your skin. brake cleaner wont, we use it to get grease off us. but yeah both fast drying and can get the job done if you got an arsenal of q-tips and toothbrushes.

Some carb cleaners will burn your skin, but brake cleaner [all brands] will strip the oils from your skin, which can be just as bad.

But yeah, I usually use brake cleaner.
