But the first push into the clean-diesel market will be lead by the German brands, and it doesn't look like we will have to wait long for them to [...]

Nice.

CARB has been dragging their feet in approving the new generation of diesels. So the Bluetec is still pretty rare out here. I'm hoping that'll change by the time I'm in the market to replace the Integra.

28mpg just isn't cutting it w/ the amount of driving I do.

Heh, diesel is $4.90 a gallon here in brooklyn, vs regular at $3.60.

BMW will sell like two or three of these diesel cars.

Given the mileage and torque advantage, I think they'll manage a lot better than you give them credit. It's not like we're talking about the ancient mechanical injection VWs which rattled themselves apart...

MBZ claims they're now certified for all 50, but CARB has yet to mention so in a press release.. :dunno:

why compare with regular. what bmw takes regular? answer None.

in CA I see $4.07 for super and $4.49 for Diesel. given that the diesel is expected to give 40% more MPG it's good trade off. 535d is rated at 38MPG in the UK (converted from UK gallon to US gallon) vs 535i gas model which gets 26MPG. that's nearly 50% increase when compared to the gas model.

I'm comparing UK rating with US rating since the US rating hasn't been released yet but the comparison holds water.

BMW will likely up the diesel model in the coming years with the new CAFE standard and they hope to eventually make up 30% of all the models sold in NA.

Yep exactly why i said it's not 50 state yet. MB said they were 50 state before but pulled that when CARB put a stop to it. Right now VW is advertising 50 state legal jetta tdi but it wont be available for sale until 9/08 or later.

Figures.
Why oh why can't CARB see the forest for the trees?
(Yes, it's a rhetorical question. h: )
