alpine 60w enuf power? and kappas vs. type r's, etc.

Several questions:

1. Which sound better? 6.5" Inifinty Kappa components (not the perfects, theyre friggin $$$) or the Alpine Type Rs? and also, im just praying the 6.5" will be shallow enuf to fit...

2. is the amp on the alpine 60w heads enuf for most music? they get 27w rms...my current alp gets 21w rms and its a lil less than optimal for me...so is 6 more watts gonna do the aforementioned comps justice?... and...crutchfield says it needs to hook straight into the battery... is that bad for my car?

3. im like asking soo many quesitons in another long ass thread, sorry pplz. is the infinty basslink any good? (all i need is moderately loud kicking bass thats proportional to the music i listen to (rock mostly) ive read only positive things about it. cuz if im not getting a sepate amp for my speakers, i think the basslink is worth it...

i just want my stereo to be well configured, practical, and sound like a well designed stock premium system, no more no less

once again thanks for input y'all

1. I like how the Alpine components sound over the Infinity components. If you require an opinion.

2. If you're adding components, you should always add an external amplifier to power them. I don't care what a manufacturer claims, head unit power just won't cut it when it comes to components. They may even sound respectable but when it comes down to it, you are doing the speakers a grave injustice and really not getting the full potential you could out of the components.

3.In my opinion do not go with the Basslink. You can get a better sounding setup (small amp, single sub, sub box) for the same price if not less than the Basslink and it will sound 100% better.

You're not asking too many questions. That's how you learn and make rational decisions about potential future purchases.

Do a search on the basslink... personally it sounded very nice with it's 200watts power. Doesnt take up alot of room and can be placed vertically or horizontally. Randy have you even heard of the basslink in a car before you made your opinion?

As for components that would sound great using your HU power...I recommend some Rainbow Dreamlines from ampmanaudio for $129 shipped. They are very efficient and sound great for Rainbow's entry level component set.

If not those then I would suggest the Type-Rs.. they do need power for them to sound their best.. but for temporary play I've heard them off of a pioneer DEH-4400 which give about 15-17 watts.. and the speakers sounded nice. Depth will be an issue..so be forwarned.. you might have to invest in some MDF to space them out.

Yes moofoo I have heard the basslink in a number of vehicles before I made my opinion.:p

I'm still iffy on the basslink. if the rainbows are efficient like randy said, there might be no need for an external amp...so rationally speaking...basslink would be a good investment...i guess my power source will ultimately determine whether i getta component sub/box or basslink... i think i'm set on the rainbows, i found another thread that gave it very positive feedback...and for the price, it sounds like a good purchase...

does rainbow make matching coaxials for the rearfill? i figure if i get one brand components up front, then it should be timbre matched for the back...or is rearfill unimportant...???

these are going into a base model rsx's stock locations...nothing custom or anything...so will dept still be an issue for the front/rear (for the rainbows? typ -r's?)

once again thanks for terrific input from everybody

I have the infinity reference components and they sound VERY good for just running off like 17 watts RMS. I have heard them running off an amp and they do sound better, but i can live with the way it is now. The question about whether 27 watts rms will make components sound decend depends. The infinities are very efficient so their RMS range is 2-90 watts RMS so you can power them off a HU or amp. Im not sure about the rainbows or type-r, you might want to look up their RMS wattage range to see if you will need an external amp.

really...is that how they measure efficiency? the type- rs rms is set at 50 watts... but the kappas can go up to 90...the rainbows rms is 60 i believe...so the more it can handle, the more efficient it is...interesting...

My definition of efficiency might be a little different from others but its not just the max rms power...its the entire range. I consider the infinities "efficient" because their rms range is 2-90 watts which means you can power them off any thing from a crappy tape deck to a good amp. Other ones like MB quart i consider not as efficient because their rms range is like from 60-120 watts rms which means it requires an external amp.

oooh ok. i get it. thanx for clearin that up

Skip the rear fill and invest your money in a front amp for whatever front speakers you decide on. Check out ampmanaudio.com if you're looking for Rainbow equiptment.
