Who makes the best head units?

So who do you guys think make the best head units?

b00gers 03-21-2003 10:36 PM

define best.

by my definition, i vote alpine and pioneer. btw, i didnt vote. :oh:

Y2A 03-21-2003 10:43 PM

best = sound quality, design, company reputation.......:)

ur31337 03-21-2003 10:43 PM

Out of that list, Clarion. Only the ProAudio, the low end is crap. Alpine's got some great decks too

151 Proof 03-22-2003 08:06 PM

Sound quality more has to do with how you have the EQ set up and what speakers you have. Who has the best design is a user preference. Company reputation? Rep for what?

acuradriva 03-24-2003 12:28 PM

none of the above
but from that list i would say alpine/Kenwood

Matt86 03-24-2003 01:19 PM

i would say alpine

Teg711 03-24-2003 01:33 PM

does nobody know about eclipse? best pre amp voltage i've ever seen, and there "nob" is sheer genious

xivera 03-24-2003 01:55 PM

From the list above...
Alpine
Clarion Pro-Audio
Kenwood is good, too.

Outside of the list, Nakamichi, Eclipse (eh... sometimes problematic) & some old Denon decks.

rcurley55 03-24-2003 03:17 PM

Clarion HX-D1 -- not the D10
Alpine 7909 -- (with a few choice mods)
Clarion 9255 -- (same as a mcintosh mx6 blah blah...something)
Denon DCt-Z1 <---- my choice as the best cd transport/DAC in one chassis combo around right now...

ur31337 03-24-2003 03:28 PM

Yea, Eclipse isn't listed, so I didn't mention them. I'd take them over anything.

Teg711 03-24-2003 03:35 PM

definately i think they're the most visually appealing IMO also, tilts, 4 8volt pre amp outputs? you can't beat that...

acuradriva 03-24-2003 05:53 PM

Eclipse is my deck of choice.

Teg711 03-24-2003 06:10 PM

glad to know i'm not the only one who thinks so

Damn sorry I forgot about Eclipse:doh:
Well so far I hear about Alpine and Eclipse being the best, so ill think about those 2 brands for now, lookin at the best model for me:) .

Odysseus 03-25-2003 03:27 PM

I have to say Alpine. Now of course you can talk about "micro" products like McIntosh... and you can pay $2000 for a head unit.

However, any HU that can be talked about being in best class can not have an internal amplifier.

flipped cracka 03-25-2003 10:56 PM

i've had a kenwood, eclipse, and now have an alpine. i've liked features of all 3, but my kenwood broke (wouldn't change volume or cd) so i don't really like kenwood anymore. i love my new alpine (mainly because it plays mp3's). i used to hate alpine, but i would definitely go with them now. but eclipse has to be my favorite of all time.

ur31337 03-26-2003 08:11 AM

kenwood eXceleon decks are great for consumer level, but they don't stand up next to Alpine, Clarion or Eclipse.

Teg711 03-26-2003 09:58 AM

ur, most clarion products suck but there top of the line(especially HU flip screen) is actually a good deal

Yea, anything not ProAudio from Clarion is crap. I stated that in one of my orginal replies in here.

AcuraFanatic 03-28-2003 07:05 PM

Alpine hands down. I've had experience with most of the manufacturers up there. Been the most happy with Alpine, bar-none. :D

Matt86 03-28-2003 07:26 PM

i change my vote to alpine and eclipse

xdannyx25 03-28-2003 10:50 PM

i like alpine and eclipse (due to preamps)
but Blaupunkt gets me because there Fm sensitivity (new series old series were crap)

Randy12vp 03-29-2003 02:18 AM

Eclipse makes a great hu if you're looking to setup a SQ system.
If you're looking for features, you can't go wrong with a Pioneer or Pioneer Premier.
