They're 652i's.

smakdown Feb 18, 2003 06:21 AM

First of all, 652i aren't components, they are 6.5 inch co-axial speakers. Just makin sure you know that because that link to circuit city's site has the word "COMPONENTS" which they are not. Second, $92 plus $30 for install is a HUGE ripoff. DON'T EVER buy car stereo equipment from a chain store like best buy or circuit city because their prices are riduculous (unless you have connections with someone that works there :naughty: ). You can get those same speakers from www.ikesound.com for $57 shipped and $0 for install if you do it yourself, which you should do because it is extremely easy. If you got any more questions just post em up.

Hmm, so what exactly is the difference between components and coaxial? Is it the same difference as it relates to home theater stuff?

vasu Feb 26, 2003 10:45 AM

coaxial speakers are full range, meaning that there is a woofer, a tweeter, and sometimes a mid range all in 1 basket that fits into a speaker whole. This allows 1 speaker to reproduce the desired frequency range.

On the other hand, components are a seperately organized system. You'll have the woofer in the door, for example, a tweeter mounted elesewhere. While harder to install, (cause there is more than 1 part), you get better imaging that way. By that i mean, the upper mids and high frequencies will be closer to your ear, where you will hear them better.

A problem with coaxial speakers is that often the speaker is mounted so low in the door, you don't hear the highs that well at all.

Infinity does make a fine speaker, but I don't know if I'd get them from Circuit City.

HT stuff will sound a WHOLE LOT better than the car environment thats because speaker Placements are a lot easier to accomplish.

I believe that for the car to sound "COMPARABLE" to the HOME System, A LOT OF MONEY and TIME + Fabrication is involved to get it to sound good.

Just my 2 cents.
