Inconsistent subwoofer bass levels depending on road conditions?
OK, a little history here:
I have a 12" JL with a 6 channel JL amp, both of which were not bolted down in my trunk for over a year. My head unit is a mid range Alpine.
The problem that I am having are inconsistent bass levels from the sub. It seemed like if I took a turn, or braked hard, or hit a pothole or something, the bass would get louder or quieter.
Well I finally mounted the amp to the back of the box yesterday, I made sure all the connections were not in a position where they were going to have any pull on the wires, etc.
After this was done, the bass seemed to stay where it should be as far as output levels. Nice and punchy, sounded good.
Later on in the drive, the output levels still occurred.
How can I diagnose this problem? I figured that the amp rolling around in the trunk was the problem, but now that the box and amp are secured so they don't slide, I'm not sure where to look next.
I think its unlikely that the amp is damaged, and the status light stays green so it isn't going into protection mode.
Should I swap head units to see if there is something wrong with it? Maybe the pre-out for the sub isn't performing properly?
Could the alternator be a problem?
Open to suggestion, I don't know a whole lot about car audio, I had a friend install everything when I got the equipment.
Thanks!

I was looking at a 165 amp one on ebay from a guy that had really good feedback.
It was like 130 shipped.
Does the wiring between the alternator and the battery need upgraded if I do a high amp one?
