My oem cd player broke in the s2. I get an E-00 code and Honda says it's dead, but my warranty just finished. I can still play the radio.

If I hooked up my oem acura cd changer (from itr, red/alpine?) will it work?

I don't want an aftermarket because I like the radio controls beside the steering wheel.

 

question 1 = No, the changer plugs are different, you would need a changer from newer model hondas/acuras with the blue rectangular plug.

As for an aftermarket deck, you can very easily add an aftermarket one... and keep your dash controls. There are adapters available that wire to the controls and can either send an IR signal to the new deck or with certain decks (new alpines, some sony) the adapter plugs right into the rear of the new deck.

Let me know what you do... if you end up going with a new Alpine, or another unit that can be directly connected to the wired remote adapter I wanna know how it works. Ive done one S2K with a Kenwood headunit and the optical remote adapter, worked really well, just had to hide the IR sender for the adapter behind the radio cover.

On the subject of the steering wheel control:

About a year ago my steering wheel control started malfunctioning. Hitting volume would change the track and vice versa. This is pretty erratic, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Is this most likely the buttons? Could I just buy a new piece and replace it?

Yes, its just an issue with the buttons, they get dirty inside and do not function properly. You can pull the switch off and tear it down to clean the contacts, or pick-up a new/used switch assembly.
