Default Another amp wiring question...

I have 2 amps... A 600W Kenwood and a 500W Lanzar Vibe. Both manuals recommend 8 gauge power/ground wiring. Would it be okay if I used 4 gauge wiring from the battery to the fuse block? And then either 4 gauge or 12 gauge from the block to the amps? My fuse block says one 4AWG input to two 8AWG outputs.

Also, would 4 gauge be right for the ground wires also from both amps? And can I connect both ground wires to a single ground???

Pardon my ignorance on these matters, thats why the forums are here!!

Yes, you can run a 4 gauge, then distribute them into the amps. From the fused distro block to the amps, I would use 8 gauge. 12 gauge is too dinky. And for the few feet, you should have no other excuse not to run the max of 8 gauge. Whatever your power wire is...it should be the same for the amp. Run 8 gauge out the amps into the chassis. You can use the same point if you like. If you want to be neat, they make grounding distro blocks also.

Would I risk blowing the amps or something if I just used 4 gauge all the way?

No. But how are you going to fit the 4 gauge into the amp?

if the amp itself and the distro blocks are big enough for 4 gauge all the way, then do it. less resistance and the amp won't be starved for power. i've seen amps get hot due to not enough power. be sure to get a good ground connection as well. go with 4 gauge ground as well.

Just be prepared for dimming lights. i have 2 amps in mine - an infinity 4 x 139 watts, and a Phoenix Gold 400.1 class D amp and i see some minor fluctuations with the lights at night. give us feedback when you're done with the install.
