Every five to eight months or so my factory-installed alarm system (goes with factory installed audio equipment and keyless entry) stops working and needs to be rest. Honda had been resetting it for me at no cost, but now is charging $100 bucks to do it. They say there may be a short, but that it could take hours to find it (and probably hundreds of dollars at this rate).

Can anyone tell me how to re-set such an alarm system?

PS: The car also slips into valet (self-alarming) mode within about a week after they reset the alarm.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
