Default 10" Subs for Free-Air Enclosure

Well, the two 10's I got from my friend that he had in climate-controlled storage ended up being dry-rotted. Hooked them up, and shredded them within an hour. Made for some nice carnage though. Aaaanyway, now I'm looking into buying me 2 10" subs to stick in their place. I'm preferring doing a free-air cause I want to keep as much trunk space as I possibly can, and it's relatively easy to do this install. I've been looking around a little bit tonight, and I'm considering these Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1. Any recommendations?

Setup specs:

99 Accord Coupe
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X589

Orion 4004 <-- for the front/rear speakers
-- 50x4 @ 4 Ohm Stereo
-- Powering:
---- 2 x Eclipse SE8363 6.5's [Front]
------ 40W RMS / 70W Max
---- 2 x Eclipse SE8493 6x9's [Rear]
------75W RMS / 150W Max

Orion 3002 <-- for the subs
---- 75x2 @ 4 Ohm Stereo
---- 150x2 @ 2 Ohm Stereo

i dont' think the kappa's are free air subs. i know kicker and phoenix gold make 10in free air subs. you can try the jl w3's i know they need very little space.

I saw on CF that the kappas were free air too (max 175w though), where are you placing yours? I was thinking of doing the same, I have not as yet installed a sub in my Accord. Where did you run the power wire for your amps, did you use the gromet in the firewall above the driver's pedal? And what did you use for the new gromet on the power wire?

yeah, the 175w max made me kind of and i'm debating now just building a sealed box and forgetting about doing free air. plans were to bolt a board with the two subs on it to the frame where there are two metal bars behind the rear seat. then i was going to attempt to seal off the space around the board to seperate the front of the speaker from the rear to not have any cancellation issues. but i'm thinking it might be a bit more difficult to pull that off than i had wanted.

as far as the power wire... i looked around on my car for about 20 mins trying to find somewhere to push the power wire thru the firewall and didn't really have any luck. since i had a rather long wire... heh... i uh... ran it all the way along the front of my hood, then out into the fender, and then there was a hole i was able to pull it thru to get it back into the cabin of the car on the driver side by the fuse box.

You ran it into the fender then into the car, how did that go again?

I'm thinking of a simple setup, maybe just the (1) Kappa 10.1 in the recommended .6cu f box, like a premade Q-logic unit. And power the unit with a Fosgate 150x1 amp or so. I'm running some Pioneer 3-ways in the rear deck now, I have a Kenwood sirius system in the car now too. But I will be running my Kenwood tuner via a new Kenwood KDC-MP628 head unit that is showing up this week.

I was going to do the X589, but I didn't need all the preouts and the Aux. in the rear may prove handy for my iPod, plus the 3 lines of text in the display looked great for the Sirius setup.

I'd like to put some new 6.5 in the door but that looks like a pain to remove te doors I'll see the OE do on the new HU first.

prolly the uni body underneath the fender. it's got a few different holes in there, that lead into the cabin...
