Default need help w/static noise at low volumes

at low volumes, i can hear static. when i rev my car, the static ticks faster. what should i be checking? i think i should recheck the ground wire to the stereo. i noticed it after i had my timing belt and water pump replaced, but i don't think that has anything to do with the stereo. btw, the stereo is an alpine cda-9835 and the car is a 91 honda accord. thanks guys.

yeah, it was the power cable running too close to the rca cables in the back of the radio. when i pulled out the radio, the noise went away, and when i put it back, the noise came back. it turned out that the power cable was too close to the rca cables. thanks guys.
