I need new HU

hey guys, my car just got broken into today :(

They took the face but leave the hu...
Now I need new HU, cause I don't think i can just buy only the faceplate.
the old one was Alpine 7864, and I have no external amps.
I liked the 60x4 internal amps which helped a lot to the Alpine Type-R coax speakers.

anyway, my choices are:
1. Alpine cda-7893: price is ok, like the blue color but no mp3
2. Alpine cda-7894: mp3 but green color rather sucks for my taste
3. Sony CDX-MP70
4. Pioneer DEH-P8400MP: a little pricey

Sony and Pioneer have 50x4, but i dunno whether 50x4 and 60x4 makes a lot of difference....
I definitely have no $$$ for external amps + subs now.

any comments, experience, and suggestions are welcome :)
and thx.

get the 7893... and add the 6 disc MP3 changer if MP3's are a real concern... its one sweet ass deck.

The Sony & Pioneer wont even touch the sound quality the Alpine has... Ive never had much luck with regular sony products lasting... thier old ES stuff was great... before they came out with that xplod crap. Pioneer is really a waste of money, and Sony is too now-a-days.

You could also ckeck and continually check ebay for anyone selling a faceplate for your old deck. I'm pretty sure the 7861, 7862, and 7863 will operate your deck just fine.

Also, among your choices, I'd get the Alpine CDA-7894. A couple people I know have it and they love it. Tons of features....:D

I have the 7894 and I actually like the way it looks in amber mode. The 7893 looks a little tacky to me with the silver/blue color scheme. MP3 is a very cool feature - I fit roughly 150 songs per CD.

I would stay away from Sony. The Pioneer would be nice if it weren't so much more money.

7893!!! Alpine!!! Do it!!!

No more Sony for me, I went through 3 of them... but the one I have now isn't shabby. I'm looking to get the Alpine with the HUD

hehe...I called my insurance adjuster again and i manage to get her to give me cda-7893 instead of 7892.

i was thinking of adding a little money from myself and get 7894.
mp3 could be useful :)
i'm probably get flamed for this, but i tested the 7897 with phantom face and 50wx4. It gives a lot of distortion to the speakers without any external amps, while 60x4 is better. So i guess the 10w difference is noticable?

what do you guys think ?
go with the 7897 for looks or 7894 for better sound?

thx

I kinda have a clarion and have herd they have one of the better d/a converters. Decks don't normally out out anywhere near what they say cleanly. I bet at 60 w there is so much distortion music isn't recognizable. Even a small amp would do wonders and maybe even save your speakers.

Just get the 7894!!!:D

Ohh... you'd be surprized what these things can do... they will easily push components cleanly...

These decks dont connect to the stock power wire... you have to run a seperate power feed or find something at the fuse box... so theres definatly a good amp in there...

They will push them but with that kinda of current im sure its not the best to get the cleanest sound. Ill take an amp over deck power anyday.
