JL Audio
Ok I have a rockford 1000watt amp 2chann. Not the bullshit one. the good old school rockford amps. I Have it powering my 12" JL Audio sub. I had this big ass box hooked up to it and I hated the fact that I did not have any I mean any space in the truck. The box was 17x17x18½. I wanna know what you guys think I should do? When I had the big box it hit kinda nice but I think I smaller box would make it hit much harder. Ahhhh I don't know. I have a 95 4door tegra. Thanks guys!

umm if i did my math right that is about 3 ft^3. Reading on their websit thats almost twice as big as reccomended. Is this box made to the specifications of the sub?

Make a sealed box, it will reduce the size by over half. The difference between ported and sealed is generally sealed has a flatter response curve (sounds better) and porter makes it alittle louder. If you have a sealed box right now then getting a smaller one will make it louder (by improving power handling) and give you a much better sound. |
If you have a sealed box that is 3 cubes total your power handling is not as good as the box being significantly smaller, BUT the efficiency of the box/sub set up is better.
Also, expect to lose some lower end notes if you make the box smaller... |
oh yeah, what model subs do you have?
I'd think W3 or W6 if you have 1kw of power |
12" W7. But I went made a sealed box. 14"x14"x15½. Sounds super good. Thanks guys!
