I need speakers for my car. Im not looking for show quality sound. I just want nice clean sound. Is there a remarcable difference between the two? Ill be running a 10in JL sub and I dont know what head unit yet if that changes anything

Regardless if you are talking about co-ax or components - go with two ways....

Are you going to have an amplifier on these speakers?

no im not going to have an amp on the speakers. I only have a small amp for the sub. When i asked my bro he said that the 3 ways are better because they have separate parts for the woofer,midrange and tweeter..does this make a big difference? Why do you suggest the 2 ways?

Less crossover points = less ways to screw things up

Plus, the 3 ways are more expensive, and in my experience don't sound any better -just brighter highs..

in reality, with a subwoofer, you'll have a 3 way system... the sub for low frequencies, "woofer" in the coaxial/component speakers for "midrange" and "midbass" frequencies, and the tweeters for high frequencies.

I also recomend a 2-way system, unless you can afford something like Bostons $750 Pro series 3-way component set and a powerful amp to power them. They have a true midrange driver, versus basically another tweeter in cheaper coaxial speakers.

I used to have two ways in the front and three ways in the rear of my Integra, then later in my first RX. The difference in the sound of the two was noticable, but nothing special.

I've since past my sound system days, though. I used to have in the Integra:
pioneer DEH-4300 head
two 6.5" pioneer two ways in front
two 6.5" pioneer two ways in rear
760W Sony two channel amp
two 12" pioneer 450W subs in back

it sounded so sweet, but the sub box was just soo heavy. Now I have:
pioneer DEH-4300 head
no front speakers
el-cheapo 6.5" two way rear speakers
It puts out just enough sound to keep me from going nuts from the exhaust tone.

Remember, if you plan on going fast, an extra 80 pounds of dead weight stereo isn't helping anything, esp. in a pudgy del Sol. If you ever plan to keep up with your brother and I, a sound system beyond a decent head and a few speakers isn't something to put money into. I am still trying to find a lightweight way to mount the subs in my new RX... but that's something else. Speed is the priority, and the old sub box noticably impacted acceleration and cornering ability.

Note: nothing against the audiophiles of the site, I know this guy personally and am commenting as such.

ah good stuff, i think i will go with the 2 ways then. And kai im only putting the sub in cuz i have it and untill i take care of a few things speed isnt of uber importance lol i did drive that laser long enough to get used to being slow

Im running Pioneer 3 way 200 watt max i got a pair for 60 bucks. There are cheap 3 way, components are over kill if ur not going for a compition system.

^ if u called what u did driving, most of the time it was parked in the driveway with me working on it.

I recommend 2-way in the rear and either 3 way or separates in the front. You don't want a lot of treble in the rear of your car. You want the treble to be in the front.

Get a head unit with the highest RCA output voltage. This will provide your amp with a higher input signal, which will make the output of the amp louder.
