Default Driver's door does not open in 1998 Accord 4 dr sedan

I have an electronic alarm that locks and unlocks the doors. Today all the locks open but pulling on the driver door handle will not open the door. The driver's side door can be opened from the inside with no problem but not from the outside. I now have to use the passenger door in the rear or the passenger door to get into my car. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks

There is a steel rod that connects the outside door handle to the lock mechanism. When you lift the handle it pushes the rod down to actuate the lock mechanism. The rod is usually held in place by a plastic retainer. Sounds like the retainer broke and the rod came loose. I had the same thing happen on my 91 Accord.

Thanks for the reply. My mechanic said it looks like a slim jim was used on the lock for a nefarious purpose. He was able to set things right for me though for about $130.
