Revving above 3000 RPM results in engine stutter.
 

Hello,
I have a 4 cyl honda accord 2000 EX sedan.

Check engine came on today while driving and I noticed that if the engine RPM goes above 3000, the ECU rev limit kicks in and the engine stutter.

I will check the CEL later but right now I am thinking it is due to oil pressure and the VTEC solenoid somehow?

Any ideas?

So I ended up changing the alternator, this seemed to solve the problem.

The code is called for CYP cylinder position sensor that is in the distributor. That is wrong, people posted that they replaced the distributor and it did not help so I thought I would start with the alternator. After replacing the alternator, I noticed that the voltage regulation (Stability) was much better.

This is to ducument what I have done incase some one else have this issue.

good question.

There were two issues that lead me to change the alternator. One, the bearing on the alternator was making noise. Two, the voltage regulation was a bit bouncy.
Also, the engine was running fine but when the car heated up, coming out of traffic light stop would trigger this CEL.


And also, on this car it was much easier to change the alternator then to change the CYP sensor which is inside the distributor. I think but not sure that I would then need to change the distributor to change this sensor.

Check your oil level. Mine has done this when the level gets too low (she burns it a lot lately....247,000 miles). It's like a built in safety mechanism.
