98 accord f23 to h22 or j30 & turbo
i have a 98 4-door automatic that i want to turbo & possibly nos. the car is a daily driver that won't see the track (other than a pass or two to see what it'll do)
if someone had a $6k budget, which of the following would you recommend & why:
1) leave the f23 in it, build it rock solid, swap to 5-speed & turbo it
2) swap to h22a w/ 5-speed, leave it stock & turbo it
3) swap to j30 w/ 5-speed, leave it stock & turbo it
anybody know where i can get a j30 w/ tranny & what would be a reasonable price for the combo?

first off the J30 is gonna cost you more than $6k just for the motor and tranny installed
the H22 turboed will cost you more than $6k also if you use new, good quality parts. unless you do the installation
the F23 built turboed will yield you the most power
H22 will only be able to handle 9-10lbs of boost MAX. a built F23 block pushing 20lbs of boost will blow away an H22 running 10lbs. an F23 pushing 20lbs should put down about 320-350hp minimum. while the turbo H22 will put down about 280 MAX pushing 10lbs
if youre really interested i have a bare F23 block and a turbo kit both for sale. the block is perfect and the turbo kit is perfect. its an FMAX kit. if youre interested PM me

where are you gonna find a J30 with a manual tranny?? not gonna happen... auto only, and its a weak auto... wont hold a turbo for long.
J30 motors are not that expensive (but more so than a 4 cyl), as its a regular production motor... mounting it in a 4 cyl car will be the expensive part... there'll be a lot of parts you'll need to swap from a V6 accord.

I think you can just forget the V6. If you compare an I4 Engine bay to the V6 Engine Bay, you'll see that almost everything is flipped. Oh yeah, don't forget about the V6 springs.

If you have 6gs to blow , man i'd built up an h22 all motor.. and plus it's a everyday driven , i'll wouldn't turbo it . and or swap ur tranny to an h23 tranny it'll take a sec. off ur 1/4 timing and build up ur f23. i think one of those ways it's best to blow ur 6gs budget. and if ur planning on getting tha j30 man goodluck . unless u can find tha acura legend 6speed tranny and supercharge it . man it'll be like an arm and a leg.

I would go built F23 with Turbo. You've already got the engine now just build it up. Only down side is the longer down time you'll experiance. The F23 boosting will deffinately satisfy you. If you decide to do the 5-Speed swap get yourself an F22B1 5-Speed. You'll enjoy the fuel economey and longer gearing that transmission will give you, esspecially since you'll be putting down the power.

The F23 has a fairly good base for modifications even without a turbo. You could create a beast if you did a full build up and compliment it with a turbo...you'd need plenty of dyno tuning sessions to get a good blend though.
Dare I say the H22 is overrated.
