is it possible to take a stock muffler and make it more "freeflowing" or even just lower in sound...i want a stock looking muffler in the end...but don't wanna buy ANOTHER muffler (remember, i'm asking about modifiy a stock one so don't tell me to just buy one...i wanna make one)

just am having some IDEAs.

 

I suppose if you cut it open and took some of the baffle walls out it may help it flow easier.....but its gonna be real unpredictable as far as volume and tone goes.

Just flare the inlets and outlets.

 

You could, but it'd probably sound really bad. A muffler also has little (but an important role) effect on overall flow, so if you were going for performance you'd want to replace the pipe as well. As for modifying the muffler I'd give you a big thumbs down on that, as it'll just sound and look cheap, as people will now think "haha, what a loser with a hole in his muffler". I had a 'low' rumble before I got my exhaust too, because I had a basketball size hole in my muffler....sOOOOOOO I say don't do it

if you REALLY want to though, you could open it, and weld a pipe straight through it?

 

Honestly...it would propably sound like crap! But hey if you want to do it, more power to ya! Having a different muffler is most likely better because the walls are built differently to produce the sound and the backpressure.
