Spring install gone wrong?
Hi, i just got my ride lowered with Eibach ProKit and for some very odd reason, i have some suspicion that they werent installed correctly. When i was coming home with a lowered ride and a grin on my face, i heard a single click from each strut towers all on different times. All four towers did eventually make the single click noise but i feel that something has not been done right. Is there any way i can check this? Thanks.
theres not really much room for error when installing springs. only thing i can think of is if they got the Lefts and Rights, Front and Rears mixed up our they put the springs upside which i highly doubt. another thing is if they didnt house the spring correcltly on to the strut assembly or they didnt shave your bumpstops if it is required....
mine keep clicking like a mufukca, too. it did it with the Eibach Sportline kit. I finally tightened the lock bolt on top of the strut assembly all the way down and that stopped the rear passenger side from klunking around. but it seemed to keep doing it on the front passenger side.
I was hoping it was just the fact that the springs were such a far drop from stock height (1.8"). And it did this the entire two months I had the springs in my ride. They were on stock shock absorbers if that makes a difference (Gabriels from Autozone).
Now I have a very, very modest drop of 0.75" using the H&R OE Sport springs. I still have the clunking noise going on. I think it's the front passenger again. One thing I did notice when I was rebuilding the strut assemblies with the new springs is that the rear shock absorbers have a rubber lining at the base that the springs rest in. But there was no rubber lining on the front shock absorbers for the springs to rest in. Don't know if it's the metal springs hitting up against the metal shock absorber that's causing the clunking noise.
I hope that clunking noise is the same noise you're talking about.
And how do you know which way the springs are supposed to be installed?
You cant get the front's mixed up with the rear b/c the springs indicate Front with an "F" after the part number and Rear with an "R" after the part number. Plus the rears are longer than the fronts. But as for Left/Right designation, there is none. I know my rears are installed with the part number facing out. But they are like that b/c that's how I was able to get them lined up with the dips in the shock absorber that the end of the spring is supposed to hit up against.
Perhaps they are on the wrong side.
Maybe if I swapped them left and right, the end of the spring would line up AND the part number would be on the inside instead of outside.

yea, i trimmed the bumpstops as required. Is there any specific amount of torque that the shock towers should be tightened to? cause like jiggafan said, if it wasnt tightened hard enuff......anyone know the torquing for the shock towers? THanks.
i had prokits and koni reds installed 2 wks ago tomorrow. I also hear a clicking/clunking noise coming from the back... more noticeably in the back right. I had them Pro installed, but in no means were they "pro". They did infact screw it up, they installed the Rear perches upside down. But they were flipped right side up 2 days later. But they looked over the whole thing again said everything looks fine... so i dunno whats causing it... i can hear the noise whenever i go over any slight imperfection in the road. Its like a clunk, but really only from the back right. Im taking the car back tomorrow, because my new rear perches came in, since they cut the old ones.... ill tell them there is noise and make them figure out whats wrong with it......

I dunno about ur clicking noise but mine stopped. I think it was just the springs settling in. I hear that it clicks when the spring momentarily pops out of the socket when u go on harsh rides......but that makes no sense to me. (heard from several ppl). My eibach prokit springs are behaving perfectly with no flaws whatsoever. Jiggafan, i hope you diagnose the problem soon, cause i exactly know the feeling of paranoia when things go bad with cars.
I've heard people talk about a noise coming from aftermarket springs. Someone said that wrapping the coils on the spring (the ones that are near each other, I think the ones at the top) with that plastic stuff they use for computer cables, took care of the problem. Could it just be the coils hitting each other?
