Default 2001 Accord ECU Issue

Sometimes while driving the car wont go above 3900 rpm which limits the car to about 65 mph and only one of the times it did that would it shift into 4th all other times it stayed in 3rd gear.

If I turn the car off and back on it goes away. My car has done this about 5 times now tho it hasent done it in about a month.

Any ideas as to what would cause this, and how to fix it?

Do you have a CEL? sounds like your are going into limp home mode. Its probably not your computer I would fix the code first.

I had something like that on my 2000 accord EX MANUAL.

The car would not go above 4000 RPM. It turned out to be when the VTEC system kicks in. It did not have enough oil pressure needed to do that so the ECU throttles it around the 4K RPM.

The fix was to add oil. Mine I found was really low.

Turns out my problem was the front crank seal was bad causing an oil leak.I had plenty of oil, the leak caused a pressure drop. When the oil heated up and thinned out the pressure drop would get worse VTEC would have issues and the ECU would go into safe mode

Don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem with my '01 coupe. It would go through all gears but randomly drop / slip out of 4th or stick in 2nd adn 3rd. I had to shift gears myself.

It kept coming up as a solenoid A / B problem but after replacing them the problem still persisted.

My solution? Swap the automatic tranny for a 5spd and apart from certain gauges not registering it's been smooth bump and stutter free driving.
