Default 96 Accord speedometer drop and ABS light flicker

Hello all! I've got a 96 Accord EX with approx 125K miles that has been very good to me over the years and has never required more than routine repairs. Today as I was driving and took my foot off the gas the speedometer dropped to zero (then returned) at the same time that the ABS light flickered on for just a second. I did not notice any performance problems nor braking problems. These are just such an unusual combination of symptoms I have no idea what could be causing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I know it was the ABS light rather than the check engine light but I'm willing to try with the VSS. Do you know why there's such a huge price range for the VSS? One place I found it for $12.00 (online) and $120 at my local Checker.
Also, I have read a few discussions about where the VSS is located (either behind the instrument cluster or above the tranny). Do you know where it is located or do you have a diagram or pic?

I have the same problem. I washed my engine, covering battery and alternator with plastic bags... Right after it drove just fine... but day later I have the same symptoms, ABS lights on for a second and during that time the speedometer drops to 0 and then goes back to normal... although like mentioned above no performance issues... and my battery was drained overnight... I read other posts and it leads me to believe the alternator somehow went bad... Did you find solution to the problem?

Ok. So I used the voltmeter to check the alternator, it gives out 14v when running and battery disconected. So I turned off the car and tested the battery and it gives of 12v. So it looks like the alternator is good. I tried driving it again after jump start and the same thing happens, ABS comes on, spedometer drops, then back to normal, then again same thing and back to normal. I didn't charge the battery for too long but it won't start by itself again I have to jump start it... Anyone know what this could be? Please HELP!!!

just wanted to address, since it wasn't, that there is NOT a difference between the ones bought online for $15-25 and the ones at the local auto stores/dealers. bought mine online for $20 on ebay the same time my brother bought his from the dealership for $225. both are running just fine and its been a good 5 years. I guess I'll update about who's goes out first.
