Remote starter

I was thinking about putting a remote starter in my 2000 EX V6 Accord and was wondering which brand was the best for the money and which ones to steer clear from. thanks

when you get one you have to get an add-in module.
DEI 555U, it'll allow you to remote start your car.
Go with Viper alarms, with the two way remote.

Are you going to install the remote starter yourself?

I was thinking that I may but I am not sure if I am going to let a pro do it or not. I have done all the speakers and stereo etc in my car so far.

with that answer alone i recommend you have a professional do it.
Its not as simple as people may say it is. you'll need to bypass the engine immbolizer. Thats where the DEI 555U module comes into play.
the last thing you need is something to go wrong and then your screwed cause you wont be able to start your car.

I dont recoemnd viper at all. They go bad very fast.
we had a whole bunch of return customers for bad remotes(the most), bad alarm modules and etc.

get the Shelby 750R. That top of the line and we've never had a problem w/ it.
right now some one is selling em on ebay for dirt cheap price.
regularly we sell em for $500 installed (retail), but this guy is selling them for $75. Thats cheaper than what we pay.

Ok, Viper is made by DEI. One of the best in the alarm industry. Period.

When a viper is installed by a certified installer, you get a lifetime warranty on the brain and relay satellite. A good shop/company should give you a lifetime warranty on the install free of charge.

DO NOT BUY AN ALARM FROM EBAY! YOU WILL HAVE NO WARRANTY AT ALL.

On top of the remote starter, you need a 556UW that will require a key to be hidden in the car to make the unit operate. You can also use an XK02 that will require a key to program but not to operate. The XK02 should be about $70 and the 556UW is about $53.

I work for Best Buy and we provide a lifetime warranty on the install free of charge. We'll charge 29.99 to install the bypass, either the 556UW or the XK02 are the same 29.99 install. When we install it, that gives you the lifetime warranty from Viper on the brain and relay satellite.

I second flyromeo3 answer!

Installing a remote starter is not a simple task. Stereo wiring is much simpler.

You need to figure out how the logic of your ignition switch works meaning if it cut ignition 2 when crancking the starter. That alone is not a simple task and when you add the immobilizer bypass unit installation is a job to be left to a professional that deals with these kind of things on a daily basis.

Put your more valuable time into other more importent things and pay a professional to install your remote starter.

Here are some examples of what I had to go through when I installed mine. That being said, I have a long background in Automation and control.

I wanted my setup to be bypassed incase of a problem. One power harness that I can disconnect at any given moment and be back to normal operation with no remote starter.

1) On my 99 Accord EX-V6 I have two ignition wires that one will cut out when starter crank. Otherwise you will have an ABS system problems. If not done right you will also have a transmission control problem potentialy cause the check engine light to come on.

2)Bypass module was tricky, just to get the RF ring around the ignition switch.

3)Factory alarm disarm took a while to open driver door and run a wire to remote starter.

OK Enough.

You see, it is not a trivial task and you really can get stuck. You need an electrical schematics for your car before you even begin thinking about wiring your car up.
