Default 1999 Accord EX 4 cyl Manual

Hi

I have a 1999 Honda Accord 4cyl, Manual, EX and here is the problem.

Sometimes the car won't start. I open the hood and take each relay one by one and fuses out of the box under the hood and then put them back. Then the car starts. I tried (when the car is running) taking the relays and fuses out to see which one is loose or not working properly but the card does not shut down.

Anyone has any idea what is causing this? Again, when I take them out and put them back in the car starts. Sometimes the car starts, runs for 3-4 seconds and then shuts down. I do the above routine again and it works.

Help?

Check the battery cable hooked to your fuse box it might be loose and you might not be getting a good connection.

HI

Thank you. I just did it and the problem persists. It is really bothering me. I am jut afraid that the engine does not shut off while I am driving.

Any other suggestion (by the way THANK YOU for this idea).

Regards,
NJ Accord

Actually, it does it when the car has been sitting for a few days. It did it in the morning, afternoon etc. Its summer so its mostly hot but it also does it in the morning when its chilly.

Does the engine turn over (starter working) but it won't fire or do you turn the key and here nothing, or maybe just a click?

Have you done a tune-up lately? Wires, plugs, distributor cap and rotor? If you haven't had it done in a while it might be a good time to replace those things. If it fixes the problem great, if not then you're out a $100 or so but at least you got it done for a while

If it only happens occasionally it might not help to check spark every time.

Get into the habit of having the stereo & ventilation turned off so you can listen for the fuel pump. Turn the key to 'run' but don't continue immediately to 'start'. Listen for the pump to run for a couple seconds then stop. If it occasionally fails to do this it might be the main relay which is above your left knee.
