Default 91 accord overheating

when i am standing at a still with my car on my temperature gauge goes up into the red in less then like 2 minutes. I can bring it down by starting to move again or reving my engine or by turning my heat on full blast. i know this is a problem.. but how serious could this be or wat is the reason this is happening. anything suggestions would help. thnx.

First check your fluid level (cold) then check to see if your coolant fans are turning on.

Had the same problem a while back. A new thermostat fixed things nicely.

i agree with fuse .. it sounds like the fans are not working ,, could be the switch at the t-stat housing.. with car running and t-stat open, ( engine warm ) unplug the connector ( 2 wires ) at t-stat housing , jump those wires together if fans come on you found your problem

If fans aren't coming on that needs to be fixed (thermoswitch?) but it shouldn't move into the red that quickly.

Sounds like the thermostat or air in the system... or both.
