u may not need to do a water pump...but i would reccomend it since your goin that far. if it does on you, especially if you dont know how old it is, i would definately do it. and your car is past 10 years...it is a good idea...and timing should be done. even if your total not sure, its better than bent valves...ive had a belt break on me and it stinks and never runs good after that...without a serious repair

that's the most stupid thing I've heard. (no offense to you)

I can't imagine risking an entire engine off of a maintenance item I was too cheap to fix.

Belts wear in 2 factors, age and use. In your case, after 10 years, the band tends to get more and more brittle with time. Don't forget your other belts too. The dealer offers a few packages for the timing belt.

1. Timing belt + water pump = $700-ish
2. Timing belt + water pump + all drive belts = $900-ish

remember, there's more than 1 belt under the hood.

I've seen water pumps start leaking on Hondas still under warranty. It's a chance you take if you don't replace it. When your friend's accord breaks tell him to bring it to my dealer, I love 15 hour head rebuilds :D

I think he doesn't care about that because he ones a collision shop. They work mostly on Hondas so there are few engines and transmissions and an engine swap may be is more simple option for him. Definitely not a 15 hours job at a dealer. Anyway this is something that I wouldn't do on my engine I just wanted to point out on how long a timing belt can last.
