Default Looking at purchasing 2000 Accord LX

I am looking into purchasing a 2000 Accord LX (4 cylinder) 4 door with 21,000 miles on it. I believe the dealership is asking 13,500 (just came in today) for it but I think they will come down. Is there anything that I should be aware of for Accords of this year? What price should I be asking for? Give me pros and cons of this year and generation please.

21,000 miles on a '00 is strangely low mileage for a 6 year old car. :eh:

Very low miles if legit, and still very overpriced imo.

Pros: my 99 has been great to me...no problems, just about to hit 100K miles.

Cons: really none as long as you don't have unrealistic performance expectations. Some auto tranny's have died, go for manual to avoid the chance of a problem.

I know the salesman that sold the car to the lady (new) and sold the lady the new car she traded the the 2000 for. I am not going to do any performance modifications to the car, it is just for a daily driver. I currently have a 99 Prelude but it has been giving me troubles lately (I think it is the recall on the ignition switch the dealership does not want to replace....but that is a different story all together.) Also, I am looking at going with a four door because no one in their right mind wants to ride in the back seat of my lude. I would love to find a Accord with a manual because all the cars I have ever own have been 5 speeds.

Jani, you think 21,000 is low. My brother purchased a 98 Acura CL with 3,000 miles on it in late 03. It has been a great car for him and it was sitting down at the factory in Marysville for most of the time before he purchased it.

theres a difference between a car that been sitting on a lot, and a car that was just used to drive to the supermarket.

^^^Thats very true. A twice a week old lady grocery getter is a find for sure. A car thats been sitting since 2000 can be a nightmare.

I'd say give ALL the hoses(vaccum, coolant, etc.) a good squeeze and listen and feel for dry rot. Start it up, let it warm up and just let it idle, see if it can maintain a consistant idle for a long period of time. Slowly rev it through the RPM band and listen for strange noises. Drive it and beat on it a little bit, make sure it doesn't hesitate.

Weren't the 2000 and 2001 accords supplied with American made automatic trannys and that's why so many have failed?

I think I am going to pass on that car and look at a 2004 Accord with 52,000 on it for 14,900. This one has a 5 speed which I personally would rather have. This one is also certified.

A CPO is the way to go for sure. Unless you can get the '00 for like 8g.
