Default baffling 92 accord problems.. :(

Hello everyone

My 92 accord has been not starting lately. Sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn't.

We have replaced the plugs, they looked ok. We replaced the fuel filter. We checked the distributor.

We thought for a while it was a fuel pump problem, but since there is always fuel at the fuel rail, we think its not that...

The engine does rotate strong, but just doesn't fire most of the time. Every now and then, it starts, then immediately stalls. There is no pattern to it

My Haynes manual doesn't really help.. has anyone else had a similar problem to this? Could it be electronic?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I was wondering a little about the main relay... in the haynes book, they are soooo vauge at pointing out and describing what the main relay actually looks like... i looked where they showed for an hour but couldn't find anything... do you know where its at ??

it really sounds like the fuel pump... listen for it when you turn the key on... you'll be able to hear it if its quiet.

Default Fuel Pump or electronic

Hey i had the same prob with my 92 accord..Sometimes it would start and sometimes it wouldnt..mainly after it rained or was wet out so i figured something was getting wet I changed my plugs and distributer..that didnt work so i got a new fuel pump and it hasnt done it yet..( knock on wood ) but if its not the fuel pump then it could be electronic..

older hondas tend to do that if left in the sun and heat, i've always thought it could be the fuel pump. if you here a clicking, try turning the starter over several times in a row(dont turn all the way) this usually primes the fuel pump, give it some gas and try to start.

if not that it's time for an H23!

Default I'm 96% sure that your problem is with...

the main relay located up under the dash just caddy-corner to the steering column.

My car had the same problems:

Would start sometimes. Other times wouldn't

I'd cut the car off, run in the store for a coke, come back out, and it wouldn't start. I'd have to sit for about 5 min. or so before it would start again.

After about 100-150k miles that damn relay just goes in and out.

Replace it and you should be in business.
