it's not fair to bash us Accord drivers
and i know it's coming but...
after sleeping only 3 hours because i spent the majority of my night researching ACCORD ENGINE PERFORMANCE UPGRADE, i realized two things...1) i better start saving up my milk money and 2) i better do things in an order as opposed to randomly upgrading i know a 2000 ACCORD LX isn't a racecar and all that bashing blah blah, trade it in for another car/engine...but i love THIS Accord and am looking for funs and kicks, not to be the fastest person on the track. i'm not a fast and furious pansy either! anyways, after the i/h/e upgrades, i am assuming after research i'd need to build up the engine with pistons, cams, etc, etc..to be able to handle the stress of a supercharger. but i am curious, is there any fact to what this website says, or is it true what they say but they are selling crap http://www.turbokits.com/accord_turbo_kits.html HP GAIN: (SAFELY ON STOCK ENGINE) is that true, i know i won't get THAT much HP maybe, but is it true that is it safe on stock engine? just curious, hit me up cuz i'm probably gonna ditch class today for more engine performance research. |
if you want any serious power out of the accord a turbo kit is the answer, but do your research on it. If you don't, you'll blow your motor real quick. talk to notoriousB about that(he's on honda-tech, and honduh.com) aside from getting the turbo kit and bolting it on, you're going to have to upgrade a few things such as engine management, bigger injectors, and depending on how much boost you run, upgrade the internals. I know a bunch of boosted accord guys and there are a bunch of them running on stock internals, and daily driven. You'd be safe running 6-9lbs of boost. I'd recommend not getting a header as you're going to end up replacing it with the turbo manifold so don't get it. also, hold off on the intake as your turbo piping will take the place of that. and while your at it, hold off on the exhaust. you'll proably want to run a 3in exhaust once your turbo setup is complete. save all your money for your turbo setup, and do it right the first time.

Even on my turbo im running 12-15psi and from that i get a total of 301hp from my stock 176hp engine. My brother and I changed the pistons,rods, & cams in order to accomodate the turbo. I wouldnt max boost the turbo on a stock engine your just asking for it. Also, you will need to add more fuel to compensate for the extra air going in your engine. Which in turn means more stress on your stock pistons and so forth. On another note, your retarded if you ditch class to do research on accord turbos. The information will be there when you leave class. Focus on your education so you could make more money to upgrade your internal components in your engine. |
yeah, the 8 lbs of boost would be safe on a stock engine... and that's as much boost as you would want to go on a auto.
Depending on how your budget is... have you looked into engine swaps? A well built-up swap might give you more gains than a turbo on the stock engine. |
well, i reasoned against ditching class, i went and it wasn't important, w/e. on the other hand im IN another class now talking with you fine folks...anyways...
so is skabone69 right, in saying i shouldn't do the exhaust or header or intake...too late for the intake, but as far the other things, is he/she right? should i just save up for a grand total of doing the turbo right the first time? on another note, just so it's clear, it is important to A) change the fuel regulator to adjust for the air/fuel ratio B) change the pistons, rods, and cams to accomadate for the stress, but isn't require? am i right on A and/or B? i'm just trying to have a complete grasp on things. |

where would i go about to purchase gears, gaskets, etc, to upgrade an Accord...specifically an LX Sedan

Glad to hear you like yours so much :) I love my car but I'm soooo sick of her after 200k miles...I can't wait to only drive it in the winters when I get my S2K. Thats why I drop to dump as little money as possible into it. I'd love to upgrade it and make it a beast but it's not worth it for me.

so where can i buy the gaskets and piston heads and all that other stuff? online-wise
