Default Radio replaced with OEM, steering wheel controls are not working now

Hey guys, this is for my co-worker. He replaced a radio on his 200x Accord and he says his wheel buttons are not working now. He tried putting the old HU back in (not sure what is broken with it exactly), and the buttons worked. They are just not working with the new HU. He clails that the buttons are remote (as in RF, bluetooth, etc), which I don't think is right. I think he has an EX, is it possible he got a wrong (DX/LX) headunit and this is why they are not working? Or is there something else wrong there.
Any help is appreciated, he's been bugging me for like a week now and I have no idea what to tell him. I haven't owned a honda since a 95 GSR (sholda never sold it!).

thanks

Just got this from him

I don't know, he is in his 50s and just wants to have a working radio and working steering wheel controls. I don't think he is after features.

I think the 2001-2002 have different wiring from the 1998-2000.

Does he has access to the part # off the replacement radio, I can
tell from that.
But most likely he has the wrong h/u, only the V6 EX (not 4 cyl EX) had
that feature.

No, the EX-L had remote controls so the EX non leather head unit would have had the capability.

The problem is that, as e3nine said in another thread, the HUs are made by different companies and do not accept the same remote.

I swapped my 98 EX radio for an 01 6cd and the steering wheel remote works fine.

it's not wireless, it's one wire on the harness.

What HU did the 01-02 LX get? Was it the same one as the SE with the single CD and tape? Maybe just that head unit doesn't work with the 98-00 wheel remote, only works with the 01-02 wheel remotes. The 01-02 6cd changer should work for both versions, if it works for my 98, and obviously was built to go with the 01-02 remote.

LXs are not wired for the remote from the factory.
