Default "Special Edition" / "SE" ?????

hello folks..........i am looking for a 4dr AT for the family- either an LX, EX , or Special Edition...... while looking for one in various classifieds/ online, i noticed many 2000 model year accords are labeled as "Special Edition" or "SE". However.......my understanding was that Honda only produces special editions in the last model year of any given generation ( ie: 93, 97, 02) BUT... after having seen more than a few '00 models for sale as special edition or "SE".........i had to seek assistance....so here are the questions:
- WAS THERE A SPECIAL EDITION IN 2000?
- is there any difference between a "special edition" and an "SE", or is one just an abbreviation of the other?
- i know that special edition basically means an LX with EX, or "bonus" features.....if so, the how is a special edition any different than a regular EX? (besides the wheels......)

thanks for the help.............i just wanna empower myself with this info knowing that many accords (especially in CA) are salvaged or re- built....i only buy clean title, non accidental cars......and alot of idiots sell re- built cars with mixed up badging/ trim level designations.

About salvaged cars. I used to have Accord LX 98 AT salvaged. I got that for cheap. It was a nice car and I loved it untill it was totaled a second time(not my fault). I'd like to say that salvaged vehicle isn't always a problem, the problem is the guy who rebuild it.
I think I saw lots of Special Editions of 2000.

The 2000 SE wasn't quite an SE as with the other generations. Its basically an LX with alloy wheels and ABS. Its cheaper than the EX but more expensive than the LX. The SE you are thinking of is as you said at the end of the model year and it has all the bells and whistles.

The 00 SE also comes with different seats. The ones with the hole in the head rest. It also comes with a EX stereo.

It did?

'00 was only a special addition sedan (no coupe)...it was basically an LX with some EX options. (auto, alloys, woodtrim bits.) You could make an LX that year into an SE for the most part.

'02 the next year of the SE, was both a coupe and a sedan. It was just like the '00 SE but they had sunroofs too.

Unless it's a really good deal on the used market, I'd go for an EX to get all the bells and whistles. Else the SE is a good choice. I loved the look of the '00 SE it had my favorite fact. honda alloys of the 6th gens. I would have gotten one instead of my '00 EX coupe, but I wanted rear discs not drums.

I think you are confusing the '00 coupe with the '02 coupe SE, b/c in 01 all coupes had open head rests. All 98-00 cars even the SE's had closed headrests. Your friend's mom must like swapping parts out then.

Please check if you would like.
Since I was test driving Accords sedans and coupes brand new in Febuary of 2000 I think I would remember.

They don't give the SE's special parts...they use them to clear out part bins before a model run gets a change. The most special things SE's get on occasion is a special paint color, which usually ends up a standard color the next year. (In '00 the it color was the darj red some SE were, I think Green and napels gold were the other 2 available colors?)

SE interior.

I was actually shocked the current CR-V special edition actually was better then the EX with it's painted bumpers and leather seats.
