Default Which 1986-1990 Honda engine is best?

Hey, I'm in the process of getting a 1986-1992 honda civic or an 87 Acura Integra to drive to and from college on the weekends, which is 3 hours away. I was wondering what type of Honda engine will run the longest and will do the best on the highway?? I heard some are much better that others. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

.... If I had to choose between thoes years... get a 90CRX or 89CRX or maybe a 90 civic hatch thoes are great cars that last quite a long time.. but accords are not my fav ones to pic under the year of 90 GL though

90+ is not "old school," the 86-89's barely fit that caption.

This belongs in the off topic, pre-92 Civic/CRX, or Integra sections.

Go with the D16A1, of the '87 Integra.

i got a 2.0L PGM-FI motor in the 87 accord lxi, 268,500 miles, great gas milage still after 17 years, just now beginning to have issues with either the FI or o2 sensor,
the 86,87 had 110hp, the 88, 89 did 120, and i think the 1990 accord was the first year for the 4th gen, total redesign, 2.2L engine, 140hp

surfacing171 ur just ticked cause ur car isn't as aerodynamic as my 87, thing looks sleek, course i like boxy sharp cornered cars (like similar year f type GM bodies too)

but we treated this car right for the first 150K, its been in the family since like 1991, so you might not do aswell if you get one that wasn't taken care of. though i do also have an 87 lx that was totally abused and it still runs good dispite a list of issues longer then this thread.

of course i dunno if any of the old accord engines will fit in there or not but its information, do with it what you want

I absolutely adore the A20A. You just can't kill them.
